Laptop Sales in Russia Drop by 12% in Early 2025 Amidst Market Fluctuations
The Russian laptop market faced a downturn in Q1 2025, with sales plummeting by 12% in value and 4% in quantity compared to the same period last year. The sales totaled RUB 53.3 billion and 882,000 units, as per a retailer source reported by “Kommersant.”
Price Dynamics and Market Challenges
While the average laptop price dropped from RUB 62,000 to RUB 60,000, the market did not witness a major price slump. However, some vendors offered steep discounts, occasionally exceeding 10%, influencing market dynamics significantly.
According to “Marvell Distribution,” this trend is attributed to seasonal downturns, a high key interest rate affecting consumer activity, and an overstocked supply chain. They anticipate a further 10-15% drop in annual sales by units.
Top Performers and Market Leaders
Asus, Huawei, and Honor dominated the unit sales in Q1 2025, though their market shares slightly dipped from last year. “M.Video-Eldorado” reported that 3.9 million devices were sold last year, marking a 6% increase, with Asus leading in revenue due to its diverse range of models. Notably, Huawei boosted its unit sales, capturing more of the market.
Market Forecast and Adjustments
Electronics distributor OCS noted a less than 5% decrease in monetary sales while unit sales increased by 10%. This pattern was consistent with a traditional early-year slump in demand, prompting price cuts which impacted financial turnover.
“Holodilnik.ru” reported a 9% and 11% decline in unit and monetary sales respectively, with a significant drop in March. Brands like MSI, Lenovo, Apple, and Honor experienced the sharpest sales declines.
Overall, the Russian laptop market continues to adapt to fluctuating demands and economic pressures, with forecasts predicting steadiness compared to 2024 levels.
