Zeekr 9S Sets Stage in China’s PHEV Arena

In the first quarter of 2026, the hybrid crossover Zeekr 9S will debut on the Chinese market, previously known under the name 8X. The new model will be available for sale at approximately 450,000 yuan ($64,025) and will become the brand’s second model in the PHEV segment following the flagship Zeekr 9X. The Zeekr 9S is positioned as a more compact and sporty version of the 9X.

The vehicle retains the brand’s signature style with a large grille, two-level headlights, black rims, and a LiDAR system mounted on the roof.

Inside, the salon has a large touchscreen display, a three-spoke steering wheel with a gear shift lever positioned behind it, and a center console styled after the Porsche Cayenne. There are configurations available with either five or six seats in a 2+2+2 layout.

The Zeekr 9S will retain the 9X’s hybrid powertrain: a 2-liter turbocharged engine coupled with two electric motors delivering a total power output of 660 kW (885 hp), with battery options of 55 or 70 kWh. The top version of the Zeekr 9X boasts the same internal combustion engine plus three electric motors totaling 1030 kW (1381 hp). The more sporty Zeekr 9S version will feature a dual-chamber air suspension and an active 48-volt anti-roll bar.

With competitors such as the BYD Tang and NIO ES8, the Zeekr 9S enters a rapidly evolving market that demands innovation and sustainability. Consumer interest is expected to be high, especially with intensifying environmental regulations pushing demand for hybrid and electric vehicles. Zeekr aims to capture a significant share of the market by offering cutting-edge technology coupled with a refined driving experience.

The subsequent response from the market remains to be seen, but anticipation is building due to the combination of advanced features and competitive pricing. Industry analysts suggest that Zeekr’s strategy to blend performance with luxury could appeal strongly to China’s modern consumers, who are increasingly conscious of eco-friendly options without sacrificing style or performance.
