YPlasma announced that it will showcase its new development at CES 2026: the first plasma cooling system in the consumer electronics market. Specifically, it involves the application of dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma actuators for cooling, which the company calls a revolutionary solution.
This is yet another so-called solid-state cooling system or active, but fanless cooler. It uses cold plasma technology to generate high-speed ionic wind without a single moving part. While the technology itself is not new, YPlasma has managed to miniaturize it to such an extent that it can be used in mobile PCs.
The YPlasma actuators are thin films only 200 microns thick. These actuators are the first in the world capable of providing both cooling and heating in one device, though heating for laptops is unlikely to be of interest. A similar solution, the AirJet from Frore Systems, operates on a similar yet distinct principle. Although the technology is a few years old, it can be found literally in a few serial devices.
