Xiaomi’s Global Smart Lock Adventure: A Secure Step into Europe

The Xiaomi Self-Install Smart Lock is making its debut on the global stage, offering straightforward installation paired with modern smart features for a wider range of homes. Previously, the Chinese tech giant introduced this smart security product in specific markets such as Japan and the UAE. Now, it is finally entering the European market.

As implied by its name, the Xiaomi Self-Install Smart Lock allows for a self-installation process without the need for drilling or expert assistance. Unlike traditional smart locks that often require replacing door hardware, this new version from Xiaomi is simply installed over the existing key system or door handles.

The self-install smart lock supports a variety of convenient unlocking methods, including:

  • Fingerprint scanning for quick access;
  • Permanent and temporary passwords;
  • App control via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi;
  • Voice commands through smart assistants.

The lock also includes a spot for a backup physical key.

This smart lock is compatible with the Matter smart home standard, meaning it can integrate with different ecosystems rather than being tied to just one brand. This is a significant advantage for those building a smart home with multiple devices.

In Europe, the device is already available through retailers like Galaxus in France and Germany, priced approximately between €145 and €153 ($160-168). Meanwhile, an additional set with an external keyboard is sold for €179 to €189 ($197-208).

Recent reviews have praised Xiaomi’s new offering for its ease of installation and robust functionality. Experts appreciate the integration with Matter, noting that it grants users greater flexibility in managing their smart home environments. Customers also highlight the fingerprint recognition feature as both quick and reliable, adding a layer of convenience and security that traditional locks can’t offer. As the demand for smart home solutions continues to grow, the Xiaomi Self-Install Smart Lock is well-positioned to capture the interest of European consumers.
