Windows 11’s Update Drama: From Consoles to AI, Expect the Unexpected

Another update of Windows 11 has broken something again. Interestingly, this time, it isn’t PC owners that are primarily affected, but users of Asus ROG Ally and Xbox Ally gaming consoles. It has become known that after the update, the built-in Windows 11 security function blocks access to the Armory Crate software on Asus consoles. This is important because Armory Crate is the native application of the consoles, used to manage performance profiles, system settings, and other crucial functions. Now users simply cannot manage settings or install important updates.

The irony is that the cause, apparently, is the Windows Smart App Control feature, which relies on AI. Here, AI is used to assess threats, and as a result, the feature blocks applications that it deems malicious, unreliable, or dangerous, analyzing them before launch. Thankfully, the problem can be solved independently. You need to disable Smart App Control to do this.

The situation is even more ironic if you remember that Microsoft, firstly, convinces investors that AI features are actively being used, and secondly, intends to take on improving the image of Windows 11 by solving numerous problems. Despite the issues, Microsoft is investing heavily in AI to enhance security and user experience, as noted in their future plans for Windows 11. Asus ROG Ally and Xbox Ally users rely on Armory Crate for performance profiles and system settings, which the recent update has disrupted. Microsoft aims to address such bugs to bolster user confidence in Windows 11’s AI integrations.
