US Vehicle Market Favorites: Pickups and Crossovers Steal the Show Amid Electric Surge

Dominance of Pickups and Crossovers in the US Market

The list of top 25 most popular car models in the US in 2025 offers no surprises: Americans continue to favor pickups and crossovers, while traditional sedans keep losing market share. Electric vehicles remain a minority, with only two all-electric models making it into the top 25, both under the Tesla brand.

The leader of the market is Ford F-Series pickups, boasting sales of 801,525 units, up by 9.5% from the previous year. In second place is the Chevrolet Silverado, with 577,434 cars sold, a 4.5% year-over-year increase. However, when combined with sales of the related GMC Sierra, General Motors effectively surpasses Ford in the full-size pickup segment, with a combined total of 925,656 units sold.

In the crossover segment, the Toyota RAV4 maintained its lead, taking third place overall with 479,288 vehicles (+0.9%). It was closely followed by the Honda CR-V, which sold 403,768 units (+0.2%). Fifth and sixth places were claimed by the Ram 1500 pickup (popular in Russia as well) and GMC Sierra, respectively.

Electric Vehicles: Tesla Maintains a Strong Position

Tesla’s Model Y remains the best-selling electric vehicle in the US, ranking seventh with 317,800 sales. However, compared to 2024, demand for the model has dropped by 15%. The second and last electric vehicle in the rankings is the Tesla Model 3, which only managed to secure the 21st spot with 172,800 sold (–9%).

Among sedans, the Toyota Camry leads, taking eighth place. The top 25 also includes the Toyota Corolla and Honda Civic, but overall, the segment of traditional sedans is very weakly represented.

Insights and Future Trends

In response to these trends, industry experts have noted, “American drivers are showing a clear preference for vehicles that offer utility, comfort, and versatility. Pickups and crossovers meet these needs, while electric vehicles are gradually gaining traction as infrastructure and technology improve.” Looking ahead, industry forecasts suggest a steady growth in the adoption of electric vehicles, driven by advancements in battery technology and increased environmental awareness among consumers.
