Ubisoft Dives Deeper into AI: Teammates Paving the Way

Currently, the use of neural networks in games is often perceived negatively by gamers, especially where it’s noticeable. However, technology continues to advance, and Ubisoft has presented a striking example of this direction. The company announced what it calls Teammates.

While this is just an experiment for now, not ready for implementation in any game, it’s likely only a matter of time. Teammates showcase how modern AI can create virtual gaming companions for gamers. These companions understand voice commands, the surrounding environment, and can act according to stimuli from these areas. Ubisoft claims that the AI companions understand the player’s intonations.

Furthermore, based on AI, in its demo project, the company created a personal assistant named Jasper. He recognizes players by name, helps them get acclimated, and understands the game’s plot. He can also highlight threats or key objects in the environment, remind players of their mission objectives, suggest further actions and serve as a tactical guide if the player is unsure of their actions. Moreover, he can manage interface elements, open menus, and adjust specific settings.

Key Trends in AI Gaming

As of 2025, AI in gaming has seen significant developments. Gamers are experiencing smarter NPCs (non-player characters), improved game understanding, and enhanced engagement through AI’s decision-making capabilities. Companies like EA Sports have introduced sophisticated AI to better simulate realistic player movements and strategies in sports games. Meanwhile, indie developers are leveraging AI to craft unique narratives that adapt to each player’s choices.

Ubisoft vs. Industry Giants

Ubisoft’s AI Teammates initiative places it in direct competition with other gaming giants incorporating AI. Activision, for example, has been refining its AI for in-game environments, making player interactions more immersive. This arms race in AI technology is reshaping the industry by prioritizing interactivity and personalization further than before.

The Future of AI Companions

With Ubisoft’s continued investment in AI, it’s anticipated that such features may soon become a standard in gaming interfaces. Developers are keen on creating AI companions that not only assist in gameplay but also personalize the gaming experience. Jasper’s potential to act as both a guide and a personalized assistant showcases the evolving role AI will play in creating more dynamic and tailored gaming environments.
