Just last year, the company Trump Mobile nominally introduced the Trump Phone smartphone, but it has yet to be released. The Verge interviewed the company’s executives and received the first live photo of the smartphone. It immediately catches the eye that the smartphone looks completely different from the images on the company’s official website, where pre-orders have been open for some time.
The only thing the devices have in common is the color. If in the images the smartphone resembles an iPhone, the shown device has a completely different design of camera modules, reminiscent of budget devices from five years ago. The specifications will also not be as indicated on the website. Instead of a 6.25-inch screen, there will be a 6.8-inch display. The internal memory will be increased from 256 to 512 GB, while the battery will remain unchanged at 5000 mAh. There is also talk of a 50-megapixel camera and some version of the Snapdragon 7 SoC.
Interestingly, the recent trends in smartphone releases have shown significant advancements in camera technologies, where AI-powered features and enhanced image processing have become standard. These developments might affect how the Trump Phone’s camera performance is perceived, particularly given its 50-megapixel sensor, which competes with the industry’s movement towards higher megapixel counts for improved clarity and detail. Furthermore, an emphasis on better screen resolution and more robust processing power is noticeable among industry leaders, which can set expectations that the Trump Phone needs to meet or exceed to gain traction.
Additionally, the business ventures associated with the Trump brand might exert a dual influence on the phone’s market reception – on one hand, leveraging the renown of the Trump name could attract certain consumer demographics; on the other hand, it might face skepticism due to the polarizing nature of Trump’s broader business activities.
As a reminder, the website lists a price of $500, but the company already says it will definitely be more expensive. The new price will be less than $1,000, but that’s all that’s known for now.
