The company Transcend has unveiled the RDE3 external card reader, famous for its impressive data transfer speeds. Equipped with a USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port, Transcend claims speeds of up to 900 MB/s. This high bandwidth unleashes the full potential of microSD Express cards, with UHS-I cards also supported. However, aside from the microSD format, other formats are not supported, even though the reader’s size could accommodate multiple slots. The dimensions are 73 x 51 x 12 mm.
This innovation can connect to Windows or macOS PCs, as well as smartphones and tablets. Alongside the card reader, the company presented the USD710S microSD memory card, perfectly suited for such fast readers.
Built on the latest SD 7.1 specification, the USD710S microSD Express card integrates a PCIe Gen 3 x1 interface with the NVMe 1.3 protocol, providing read/write speeds of up to 900 MB/s and 780 MB/s respectively. Compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2, the USD710S significantly reduces game load times, system boot times, and scene transitions, allowing gamers to dive into an immersive gaming experience immediately.
Ensuring stable performance in AAA games, open-world adventures, and DLC content, the card supports a wide range of augmented and virtual reality devices and portable gaming consoles, maintaining backward compatibility with UHS-I devices. With up to 512 GB capacity, users can effortlessly store an extensive library of games and DLC. The card also supports V30 speed class and 4K/8K video recording, making it ideal for drones and action cameras, satisfying diverse gaming and content creation needs. The company does not disclose the price of the novelty.
Recent advancements in USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 technology increase the appeal of high-speed card readers like the RDE3. Competitors in the market are also innovating, offering devices with multiple format support and enhanced durability. As the gaming industry evolves with devices like the Nintendo Switch 2, demand for high-speed and high-capacity storage continues to grow, underscoring the importance of compatible accessories.
