Toyota Steers Ahead: Record Sales in 2025 with Crossovers Leading the Charge

North American Market Success

Toyota reported its 2025 annual results for the North American market, highlighting a solid sales increase. Demand for the brand’s vehicles grew by 8.1% to reach 2,147,811 units. As anticipated, crossovers and pickups made the most significant contributions, although traditional passenger car models also maintained consistent demand.

The Perennial Popularity of Corolla

Despite its age, the Toyota Corolla continues to retain popularity. Sales of the compact sedan grew by 6.5% to 248,088 vehicles, excluding the Corolla Cross, which sold nearly 100,000 units separately. The Corolla statistics also include the hatchback and the sporty GR Corolla version. Notably, the Corolla Hybrid saw record-breaking numbers due to technological enhancements including improved fuel efficiency and advanced safety features.

Camry’s Consistent Strength

The Toyota Camry also performed strongly with demand increasing by 2% to 316,185 vehicles, making it the second best-selling Toyota model in the US after the RAV4. The RAV4, despite generational changes and the gradual phasing out of the old version, sold 479,288 units, marking a 0.9% growth. The 2025 model featured updated infotainment systems and enhanced hybrid powertrains.

Rising Hybrid Trend

2025 became a landmark year for the Corolla Hybrid, GR Corolla, and Camry Hybrid. The Toyota Prius no longer dominates the segment, yet sales increased impressively by 26.3% to 56,488 vehicles. This rise is partly due to shifting consumer preferences towards more environmentally friendly and technologically advanced vehicles.

Premium Segment Dynamics

In the premium segment, Lexus IS, despite its age, gained 4.1%, achieving 19,714 sales. Meanwhile, sales for the Lexus ES declined by 7.5%, and the departing Lexus LS saw its sales halve. Nevertheless, the success of its crossovers propelled Lexus to a record sales year in 2025 in the US with 370,260 vehicles, an increase of 7.1% from the previous year.
