Thermalright Unleashes a Powerful Yet Overkill PSU

Thermalright has unveiled its flagship AT-1650 power supply unit, boasting an impressive 1650 W output, equivalent to approximately 2.2 horsepower, living up to its name. While not the most powerful unit on the market, it offers substantial power for nearly any PC setup. This PSU is capable of powering even a pair of GeForce RTX 5090 GPUs, which is arguably excessive for all but the most extreme gamers, given that SLI technology is no longer supported in modern games. In fact, it features two 12V-2×6 connectors.

The new model is 80 PLUS Titanium certified and boasts a fully modular design. Inside, high-quality Japanese capacitors are used. Other notable features include a 135-millimeter fan, dimensions of 180 x 150 x 86 mm, and a robust 10-year warranty. The unit is priced at approximately $275.

In line with industry trends, Thermalright’s PSU underscores the shift towards higher efficiency and modular power supplies. Experts consider the 80 PLUS Titanium certification as indicative of superior energy efficiency levels. The market is seeing increased focus on eco-friendly components and innovations aimed at reducing noise, with leading competitors like Corsair and Seasonic also advancing in these directions.

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 is anticipated to be the next flagship model following the RTX 4090, with expected breakthroughs in GPU architecture and increased performance benchmarks. Though the support for SLI technology is increasingly phased out, the focus shifts to optimizing single-card performance enhancements, as gaming prioritizes individual GPU capabilities.
