The Unlikely Popcorn Vendor: Tesla’s Robot Optimus Puts Movie Theater Staff on Notice

The humanoid robot Tesla Optimus has demonstrated a new skill-selling popcorn. During a test, the robot successfully took a cup, filled it with popcorn, and sealed the bags, while regulating the grip strength. Managing grip strength proved more precise than that of traditional industrial robots. When there are no customers, Optimus automatically switches to standby mode with minimal power consumption, keeping the sensors active for instant reaction. Tesla engineers reported that Optimus’s error rate in standardized scenarios has decreased to 0.3%.

As of December 2025, Optimus can perform complex service tasks, showcasing advancements in AI-driven robotics. This innovation features in Tesla’s forward-thinking projects as more restaurants integrate such technology.

In July, the first Tesla restaurant with a Supercharger in Hollywood began trial operations, where robots are already performing real service tasks. Since its opening, the restaurant has smoothly blended cutting-edge technology with dining, promising a futuristic experience for tech enthusiasts. The pilot site not only showcases Tesla’s advancements in robotics but also its commitment to integrating sustainable energy solutions. Displaying the seamless combination of advanced robotics with everyday applications, this venture is a taste of what the future holds as Tesla continues its push into new territories.

Earlier at a closed Tesla event in Miami, where the Optimus robot and new Tesla technologies were demonstrated, one of the robots fell on its back, presenting a rare blooper in an otherwise impressive lineup of tech marvels.
