Authors at Hardware Unboxed released an extensive review of the Ryzen 7 9850X3D processor, with a particular focus on gaming. They compared its performance with Ryzen 7 9800X3D, 7800X3D, and Intel processors.
As expected, the new processor has become the leader, thus marking it as the fastest gaming CPU on the market. However, the difference with the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is quite small, which was also anticipated. At Full HD, even at medium settings, it’s an average of 4%, and at maximum settings, it’s less than 3%.
All other CPUs lag significantly. For example, the same Core i9-14900K trails by a noticeable 17%, and the Core Ultra 9 285K is even slower. It should be remembered that these results were achieved in Full HD using the RTX 5090, which is far from typical scenarios. These tests are only necessary to show the true performance difference. In 2K, the difference between CPUs will be much smaller, and in 4K, it is often close to zero, not to mention configurations with less powerful graphics cards.
In any case, we have a new king of gaming processors, equaled only by the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, if we do not consider the latter.
With AMD’s recent focus on power efficiency, the Ryzen 7 9850X3D also benefits from significantly better wattage management, making it appealing for both gaming and productivity tasks. Despite the high interest, market availability issues have arisen, influenced by the global demand surge for gaming components.
The integration of AI capabilities and enhanced ray tracing features in GPUs like RTX 5090 is shaping the gaming experience, allowing CPUs to fully exploit their power in tandem. This shift is shaping consumer expectations and dictating future tech innovations in gaming hardware.
