Retail prices for RAM modules have surged recently, often by two to three times the previous amounts. However, the situation could be worse for PC builders. CyberPowerPC has reported a 500% increase in costs.
The company issued a statement, warning customers that from December 7th, it will have to raise prices on its PCs, citing a doubling in SSD prices and a fourfold increase in RAM costs. While this substantial hike is not yet apparent in retail markets, it might just be a matter of time. The company points out that this price increase is temporary, although it admits external factors are beyond its control.
Analysts currently predict that RAM prices will continue to rise into 2026, with a return to normalcy not expected for several years. There is speculation that the AI bubble might burst by 2027, potentially leading to a decrease in prices. Meanwhile, Maingear also commented on the current situation but emphasized its efforts to keep prices stable. Yet, the company advised consumers to act quickly before prices escalate further.
The latest trends indicate significant fluctuations in RAM pricing due to factors such as rising demand from data centers and AI industries, exacerbated by the ongoing semiconductor shortage. Forecasts suggest some stabilization by 2027, aligning with the projected decline in AI-driven demands.
In CyberPowerPC’s recent announcement, broader concerns about the rising cost of components are highlighted. Global supply chain challenges and heightened demand for high-performance computing have amplified costs. Maingear, on the other hand, seeks to maintain price stability, showcasing its consumer-centric strategies amidst inflationary pressures.
