Nintendo Switch 2 officially hit the shelves yesterday, yet for some early adopters, the excitement turned to disappointment due to damaged screens. At a GameStop on Staten Island, several buyers received consoles with screen punctures caused by staple damage.
The issue arose when GameStop employees used staples to attach receipts to packaging, inadvertently puncturing the thin cardboard boxes and damaging the console screens. One customer expressed frustration, stating, “GameStop stapled a check to my Switch 2 box, damaging the screen,” while another noted that “the entire pre-ordered batch seems affected.” These issues gained traction on social media and Reddit, where users shared photos and discussed the incident.
GameStop took swift action, assuring that the problem was isolated to the particular Staten Island store and offering replacements for the damaged units. “We have addressed this unique situation with the Switch 2 screens being damaged by staples, limited to a single location,” a GameStop spokesperson explained. “Customers are being provided replacements, and staplers have been confiscated.” GameStop encourages any affected customers to contact support for assistance.
Launched on June 5, 2025, the Nintendo Switch 2 retails at $449, boasting enhanced features over the original model. It includes a 7.9-inch LCD screen, updated Joy-Con controllers, and supports new games like Mario Kart World, making it a highly anticipated release for gaming enthusiasts.
