The company Svolt has announced that its Dragon Armor 3.0 battery is the first to provide “fire and electricity separation,” allowing flames during thermal runaway to be directed away from the vehicle’s passenger compartment. The positive pole is located on one side, with a pressure relief channel to prevent ignitions on the opposite, ensuring physical isolation. Each channel has its own flame propagation path. According to Svolt, during thermal runaway, the flame is directed downwards and sideways but never toward the passenger cabin.
Svolt further claims that its Dragon Armor 3.0 is the first system to support compatibility with square cell formats and integration of CTC/CTB (cell-to-chassis/cell-to-body) with separation for thermal management control. The top of the battery cell is capable of bearing loads, while the bottom allows pressure relief. Soon, Dragon Armor 3.0 will enter mass production with two battery variants: 86 kWh for plug-in hybrid vehicles and 115 kWh for fully electric vehicles.
Recently, Svolt has expanded its reach by partnering with various electric vehicle manufacturers globally, enhancing its supply chain and technological footprint in the battery sector. Moreover, their latest updates emphasize improved thermal management systems and durability benchmarks, setting new standards in battery safety and integration.
In a competitive comparison, Dragon Armor 3.0’s integration capabilities stand out significantly, offering notable advancements in the incorporation of battery systems directly into vehicle chassis, thus optimizing space and efficiency.
