An inventive modding project has redefined the role of a graphics card by transforming the Gigabyte RTX 5070 into an independent computing system. Crafted by specialists from CherryTree, this project showcases the experimental merging of a mini-PC with a high-power GPU, highlighting the evolving potential of hardware design.
The innovators began by gutting the RTX 5070 to create space for the components of an Asus mini-PC. This integration resulted in a powerful setup featuring an Intel Core i7-1360P processor, 64GB of RAM, and a 2TB M.2 SSD. Remarkably, the project retained the GPU’s original cooling system and RGB lighting while output ports were set up on the back panel like a conventional computer.
Steve Burke of the renowned YouTube channel Gamers Nexus explains that while the unit physically fits into a PCI Express slot, it lacks power or interaction with the existing system without further modification. This intriguing setup emphasizes the mod’s experimental nature, spared for display rather than general utility.
This creative venture, while not aimed at commercial release, underscores modding capabilities. CherryTree’s team also injected humor into the project by packaging the unit in a graphic card-like box and naming it “GEEFARCE 5027 POS” with abbreviations “UC” and “OR”, playfully highlighting it as “underclocked” and “overrated”.
This project not only entertains but also inspires the tech community, pushing the boundaries of hardware customization.
