“Booster 18 failed during tests of the pressurized gas system, which we conducted prior to structural validation tests. The vehicle had no fuel, and the engines had not yet been installed. Teams need time to conduct an investigation before we are sure of the cause. No one was injured as we maintain a safe distance for personnel during this type of testing. The site remains clear, and we are working on plans for a safe re-entry to the area,” SpaceX reported.

The incident could delay the timeline for the first launch of Starship V3 and the overall testing program of the next-generation rocket.

Potential Delays and Implications

The setback is expected to impact SpaceX’s ambitious schedule for its Starship V3. The launch was initially anticipated by late 2025, but this mishap may cause a postponement while investigations and necessary adjustments take place.

Technical Challenges and Safety Measures

SpaceX’s commitment to safety and innovation remains a top priority as the team ensures that all safety protocols are adhered to. The absence of fuel in Booster 18 during the incident highlights the preventive measures in place to minimize risks.

Despite the incident, SpaceX continues to forge ahead with its objectives to revolutionize space travel, although the challenges faced by Booster 18 serve as a reminder of the complexities involved in aerospace development.
