Sony today officially introduced the new generation of the popular full-frame Sony A7 camera – the new product is called the Sony Alpha 7 V (ILCE-7M5). Pre-orders are already being accepted, with international sales starting December 19. The recommended retail price is $2900.
The maximum electronic shutter speed has increased to 1/16000 seconds. The stabilization system has been seriously improved: it now claims 7.5 stops of exposure compared to 5.5 in the A7 IV.
The updated AI model has significantly improved human recognition – the camera better keeps the subject in frame, faster finds the face and eyes, even if the person is partially hidden. Sony states that autofocus performs calculations 60 times per second.
The camera received a pre-burst system, first appearing in the A9 III. It records images 0.03–1 seconds before full press of the button – to not miss the moment. The mode works at any shooting pace.
Video recording modes supported include 4K at 60 fps, 4K at 120 fps, and Full HD at 240 fps. There are two USB-C ports – for power and for data transfer. On a single charge, the camera can take up to 750 shots. The dimensions of the Sony Alpha 7 V are 130 x 96 x 72 mm, weight – 695 grams.
