SmallRig has launched an updated version of its NP-F970 battery, designed for use in extremely low temperatures. Thanks to its construction, which is tailored for cold weather, it can operate efficiently down to -40°C. This makes it a reliable power source without the need for additional heating equipment. The price is set at $100.
Reportedly, this battery boasts a capacity of 7500mAh and is equipped with USB-C and USB-A ports, allowing it to function as a power bank for charging smartphones, tablets, and other devices. Built-in contacts make it suitable for powering common photographic equipment.
When it comes to technical specifications, this battery supports PD fast-charging protocol and 36W self-charging, enabling a full charge in just two hours. The output circuits for USB-A and USB-C interfaces operate independently, providing a total output power of up to 45W. It’s compatible with digital devices such as drones, cameras, and mobile phones.
There are built-in touch-sensitive buttons, and an OLED display shows the remaining battery percentage in real-time.
In the context of its release, industry experts highlight its potential impact on film and photography industries where cold climate operations are common. While it continues to find its niche, comparisons with other leading brands show favorable positioning, particularly in terms of technological robustness and pricing.
Additionally, the growth of cold-weather filming projects boosts demand for such innovations. According to recent industry feedback, users appreciate its efficiency and usability in demanding environments, pointing to the product’s practical benefits in both professional and consumer markets.
