Scam Rocks Amazon’s Reputation with RTX 5090 Surprise

A buyer of the flagship GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card fell victim to a scam, from which they should have been protected, as the purchase was made on Amazon under the Amazon Resale program. This section of the marketplace is intended for selling returned items at a discount. Amazon claims that such items undergo thorough inspection before being sent back to customers.

A Reddit user with the nickname Dazzling_Course8755 reported ordering an MSI SUPRIM GeForce RTX 5090, but only found stones and a towel inside the box. According to the victim, they have encountered difficulties trying to purchase an RTX 5090 on Amazon four times before, but this time decided to use the Amazon Resale program.

In the comments, Reddit users criticize Amazon’s quality control system. They suggest that staff may have limited themselves to checking the weight of the box, deciding it was “heavy enough,” and did not check the contents. Commentators argue that Amazon, it seems, does not always verify what is inside the packaging, even when it comes to expensive items. This incident appears as retailer negligence, but the user did not publish the product page and did not disclose the seller’s details who sent stones instead of the GeForce RTX 5090.

Amazon’s Response to Fraud

In light of growing concerns over fraud on platforms like Amazon, the retailer has been implementing more robust systems to enhance buyer protection. This includes investing in artificial intelligence technology that better monitors the supply chain for red flags and assures that contents correspond with what’s advertised. Amazon has also been collaborating with law enforcement to track and combat fraudulent sellers more effectively.

An Examination of the RTX 5090

The GeForce RTX 5090 is renowned for its unprecedented power and efficiency, featuring a significant leap in performance metrics compared to its predecessor, the RTX 4080. It boasts advanced ray tracing capabilities, unprecedented VRAM capacity, and optimizations for the latest demanding video games.
