Samsung’s Silent Move: GDDR7 Memory Chips Hit Mass Production Amid GPU Evolution Delays

Samsung has quietly commenced mass production of its 3 GB GDDR7 memory chips, operating at an impressive effective frequency of 28 GHz. These cutting-edge memory chips are anticipated to be integrated into the upcoming GeForce RTX 50 Super graphics cards. However, recent updates suggest that their release has been postponed, sparking curiosity and speculation about potential timelines.

In addition, Samsung is currently producing samples of the same memory with even higher frequencies of 32 and 36 GHz. Although there have yet to be rumors about such high frequencies being deployed in forthcoming graphics cards, these advancements indicate that we may witness these chips in future generations of Nvidia and possibly AMD adapters.

The majority of current RTX 50 cards are equipped with memory running at 28 GHz, with the RTX 5080 slightly trumping that at 30 GHz. Meanwhile, AMD and Intel continue to utilize GDDR6 memory for their graphics cards.

In the rapidly evolving landscape of technological innovations, the introduction of these GDDR7 memory chips by Samsung seems poised to set new benchmarks in GPU performance. Their silent yet strategic production aligns with the broader industry trend towards higher speed and efficiency in gaming and professional graphics applications.
