Samsung Galaxy smartphone and tablet users have encountered delays in receiving Google Play security updates. These patches secure Android’s components without needing a full OS update. Typically, they accompany Samsung’s regular security patches, but presently, most devices haven’t received fresh updates since July or August.
As Sammobile reports, the Galaxy S25 continues utilizing the September Google Play update, despite getting December’s Samsung security patch. The same applies to the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. Some Samsung models received Google Play security updates in September.
Google Play System update issues often arise with new One UI and Android versions. Historically, updates resumed by January. In 2025, the situation is particularly unusual: two major One UI versions launched within less than six months, with another version (OneUI 8.5) already in development.
Sammobile notes that normalization is expected with the final release of One UI 8 for all compatible Galaxy devices. However, the release of One UI 8.5 is imminent (likely at the end of January, coinciding with the Galaxy S26 lineup premiere), potentially leading to another slowdown in Google Play’s Android component security updates.
