In the upcoming Galaxy S26 series, Samsung has reportedly implemented a new noise reduction algorithm designed to eliminate long-standing artifacts in photos, particularly the “fault lines” or banding that can appear in blue skies. This information comes from the well-known leaker Ice Universe, who suggests this enhancement could make the S26 the best Galaxy flagship ever. The improvements are said to be especially noticeable in a new 24MP camera mode, which delivers exceptional clarity even when zoomed in.
A persistent challenge in mobile photography has been the appearance of banding in areas of smooth color transition, like the sky. According to leaks, the new algorithm in the Galaxy S26 series uses a new noise reduction technique and possibly a 12-bit color pipeline to produce smoother gradients, resulting in cleaner and more uniform images. This software-driven improvement is expected even though the camera hardware may not be a significant upgrade from the previous generation.
The insider also highlighted the impressive capabilities of a new 24MP shooting mode. This mode is designed to offer a balance between the standard 12MP photos and full-resolution 50MP or 200MP shots, providing more detail than 12MP images with smaller file sizes than high-resolution ones. Leaks suggest this mode avoids issues like over-sharpening and purple fringing sometimes seen in other high-resolution modes. While there is a processing time of about three seconds per photo, it happens in the background with no shutter lag. This feature will reportedly be exclusive to the Galaxy S26 series and must be enabled through the Camera Assistant app.
These camera details have emerged despite Samsung’s reported efforts to crack down on internal leaks ahead of the Galaxy S27 launch. The company has allegedly introduced a “secure chat” mode in its internal messaging systems to prevent employees from copying, screenshotting, or forwarding sensitive information. This move is understandable as the smartphone camera race is highly competitive, with rivals like Apple, Google, and Vivo also pushing advancements in computational photography, high-resolution sensors, and zoom capabilities.
Beyond the camera, Samsung is also continuing its annual tradition by releasing the 2026 version of its signature “Over The Horizon” ringtone, which will be featured on the new devices. This year’s theme is “A Soundtrack of the Earth,” featuring an orchestral arrangement meant to convey harmony between technology and the planet. While a smaller update, it complements the broader focus on AI and software refinement for the S26 series. In the long term, Samsung’s focus on using AI to solve fundamental image processing issues could set a new industry trend, pushing competitors to develop similar solutions.
