Samsung Eyes BOE: A Shift in Display Suppliers for Future Galaxy Stars?

Recently, the President of Samsung Telecommunications met with the CEO of BOE to discuss the possibility of using BOE-manufactured OLED panels in Samsung’s future flagship phones. Insider Ice Universe reported, “After resolving the patent dispute between BOE and Samsung Display, South Korean manufacturer’s head, TM Roh, met with the CEO of BOE to discuss the potential use of BOE OLED screens in new Galaxy S flagships.” For a long time, BOE has been a supplier of LCD panels for Samsung TVs. Reportedly, the meeting included substantial discussions on this business aspect, but sources familiar with the situation claim that the parties also discussed OLED panels for the flagship Galaxy S series smartphones.

Samsung Display has always been the main supplier of displays for its premium devices such as the Galaxy S lineup, foldable Galaxy Z, and even some Galaxy Tab models. Now this may change.

The fact is that Samsung’s mobile division is under pressure due to rising prices for key components, including processors, camera sensors, and memory. Instead of passing all these price increases directly on to consumers, Samsung is likely seeking ways to cut costs in other areas. Diversifying display suppliers could be an evident first step.

In recent years, BOE’s reputation as a display supplier has also improved. In fact, Apple already uses BOE-manufactured OLED panels in some budget iPhone models, with reviews generally positive.

Ice Universe first accurately reported the new trend of waterfall screens on smartphones, the notch on the iPhone X, the new design on iPhone 14, and Samsung’s 200-megapixel image sensor. He receives exclusive insights into new developments from sources within the research and development department of the South Korean giant.
