SAIC Volkswagen Unveils Lavida Pro: A Leap Forward Amidst Striking Milestones

SAIC Volkswagen is set to reveal the new Lavida Pro, with an official launch slated for November 17. This model enters the market on the back of a remarkable achievement: on November 3, the production of the 6.5 millionth Lavida was celebrated, marking it as the first passenger car in China to reach such a production volume. Ahead of announcing the prices, the manufacturer has disclosed key changes aimed at helping the new generation maintain its status as a ‘people’s bestseller’.

Though formally the Lavida Pro is considered the fourth generation, SAIC Volkswagen classifies the car as the fifth generation, taking into account the 2022 update and the introduction of the Lavida Elite version in 2023, which broadened the model range and lowered the entry threshold.

The new sedan has transitioned to the MQB-Evo platform for the first time, receiving a comprehensive design and interior update. Dimensions have increased: the length has grown to 4720 mm (185.8 inches), height to 1482 mm (58.3 inches), and trunk volume to 520 liters (18.4 cubic feet). The Lavida Pro will be offered in two front design options: Classic, with a strict Passat-style design featuring horizontal slats in the lower bumper, and Starry Sky, a more ‘sporty’ option with a grille pattern in the lower bumper and an illuminated logo.

The interior has been completely redesigned. Equipment includes a digital instrument panel with a 10.25-inch screen and a media system with a 12.9-inch screen, featuring a Qualcomm 8155 SoC, support for CarPlay, CarLife, and Huawei HiCar interfaces, and wireless charging. The safety suite is built on 15 radars and 5 cameras.

The Lavida Pro will be offered with two powertrains: a 1.5-liter turbo engine producing 110 hp paired with a 6-speed automatic, and a 1.5-liter turbo engine EVO II producing 160 hp paired with a 7-speed DSG DQ200 robot gearbox.

The main improvement in the chassis is the transition to a rear multi-link independent suspension. This transition is expected to significantly enhance the driving experience, catering to a more dynamic and comfortable ride.
