Renewable Energy Takes Center Stage in U.S. Energy Expansion

According to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), in November, nearly all new energy generation projects in the U.S. relied on renewable sources. To be precise, 88% of all capacity at facilities commissioned in November 2025 was generated thanks to renewable sources.

The leader here was solar power plants. Over the month, 38 new facilities were launched, accounting for 72.3% of all new system capacity in November. This was also the second largest monthly increase in solar energy capacity for the year, second only to the growth in January 2025.

In total last year, counting through November inclusively, 690 new solar power plants were commissioned in the U.S., and analysts only counted industrial-scale facilities with a capacity of more than 1 MW. Their total capacity amounted to almost 25,500 MW. Overall, solar energy has been the largest source of new generating capacity in the country for 27 consecutive months. During this period, the total figure for generated capacity has increased from 91.82 GW to 163.44 GW.

As of early 2026, the momentum with solar power continues strongly, with more states joining in on large-scale installations. Notably, Texas and California are leading the way in expanding solar capabilities, with recent projects boosting the state’s renewable portfolio.

The continued drop in the cost of solar technology and increased federal incentives are driving this growth, making 2026 a promising year for further developments in the renewable sector.
