The Polish company Goodram, known for producing memory and storage solutions, has unveiled the SSD DC25F, a device engineered specifically for immersion cooling. This new product boasts a capacity of 122.88 TB and features a PCIe 5.0 interface. It leverages QLC memory, enabling the creation of such large-capacity drives.
The new SSD offers a read speed of 14,600 MB/s, but its write speed is significantly lower at just 3,200 MB/s. A similar scenario is observed with performance metrics, showing 3,000,000 and 35,000 IOPS. The model is available in form factors E3.S and E3.L.
Goodram asserts that its corporate SSDs have been tested using dielectric liquids commonly utilized in immersion cooling baths, including compositions from Shell and Chevron. This cooling method, known as immersion cooling, is a groundbreaking technology providing substantial heat reduction and enhanced reliability for high-performance computing environments.
On the manufacturer’s website, a compelling list of other SSDs designed for this type of cooling can be found. These SSDs vary in form factor, capacity, and speed, but the DC25F model stands out as the most capacious.
Immersion cooling technology has recently seen significant advances with developments aimed at reducing carbon footprints and increasing system longevity. Moreover, the integration of PCIe 5.0 compliments the industry’s shift toward faster, more efficient data centers, offering improved latency and throughput.
In the broader industry context, high-capacity SSDs like the DC25F set new standards, prompting competing manufacturers to innovate further. Companies worldwide are recognizing the demand for robust, eco-friendly storage solutions, prompting a shift in consumer expectations towards sustainable technology.
