Well-known German overclocker and tech blogger Der8auer warns of a significant price increase across all models of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 50 series graphics cards. This prediction arises after the graphic card giant ended its Open Price Program (OPP), which previously allowed AIB (Add-in-Board) partners to release cards near the recommended price. Discontinuing OPP means gamers might face steep price surges across the RTX 50 lineup.
The phasing out of the GeForce RTX 5070 Ti is only partially true. While it hasn’t yet reached the EOL (End of Life) status, Nvidia’s focus is shifting towards the more powerful GeForce RTX 5080, boasting 16 GB of GDDR7 memory. Its superior performance is accompanied by a price up to twice the recommended levels, driven by high demand and limited supplies.
As these developments unfold, a further price increase for the RTX 5080 is expected. Meanwhile, the RTX 5070 Ti is becoming increasingly scarce. Such trends are creating a clear division in the market, where high-performance options like the RTX 5080 dominate the upper segment, compelling consumers to adapt to new pricing realities. Meanwhile, in the lower market segments, alternatives from both Nvidia and AMD focus on configurations with 8 GB of video memory.
AMD is pursuing a parallel route by emphasizing their 16 GB memory models such as the Radeon RX 9060 XT and RX 9070 XT. This strategic shift gradually sidelines the versions equipped with 8 GB memory, mirroring Nvidia’s approach toward premium, high-capacity graphics solutions.
These adjustments hint at a broader industry trend towards high-capacity, premium GPU offerings, significantly impacting consumers’ purchasing capabilities and intensifying competition between Nvidia and AMD. As technology evolves, so too must consumer expectations and market strategies adapt, marking a definitive shift in the graphics card market landscape.
