Nissan has officially unveiled the new generation of the Navara pickup truck in Australia, but one might easily mistake it for the Mitsubishi Triton at a glance-even with its uniquely designed front end.
Nissan hopes that these features, particularly the suspension, will help distinguish the Navara from the Mitsubishi Triton, despite sharing the same ladder frame chassis. The Navara is now equipped with an electric power steering system for the first time.
The vehicle’s body profile and glazing are akin to the Mitsubishi Triton, but the rear lights showcase Nissan’s exclusive LED graphics. During the official premiere, the company revealed several trims, including the mid-range ST-X and the flagship Pro-4X. The latter is distinguished by its Lava Red accents, extended arches, and dark alloy wheels. Customers will have a wide range of accessories to choose from, such as a steel power bumper, snorkel, canopy, and much more.
This concept features a special bumper with integrated lighting, reinforced underbody protection, 17-inch wheels with 32.2-inch off-road tires, and a modified suspension with a 14 mm increase in ground clearance. Such features are designed to enhance its off-road capability, appealing particularly to adventurous drivers.
The media system’s screen diagonal measures 9 inches, providing robust support for navigation and infotainment.
The average fuel consumption is rated at 7.7 L/100 km. The base version comes equipped with the Easy 4WD system with an electronic rear differential lock, while the ST-X and Pro-4X trims are outfitted with the Super 4WD system, featuring an inter-wheel differential lock and a range of driving modes akin to Mitsubishi’s Super Select 4WD-II.
Sales of the new Nissan Navara will begin in Australia and New Zealand in the first quarter of 2026, with prices to be announced closer to the market release. The new model will compete against the revised Toyota Hilux and the Ford Ranger, the latter of which continues to lead sales.
Interestingly, in the US, the introduction of a hybrid Bissan Rogue, which ended up being a clone of the Mitsubishi Outlander, signals an increasing focus on hybrid technologies. Such developments could influence future iterations of the Navara, especially as eco-conscious consumers look for more fuel-efficient options.
