Next-Gen BMW X5: New Design Tweaks and Variants Ahead of Its 2026 Release

Photographs have surfaced of the BMW X5 fifth generation undergoing road tests in Sweden. Sales of the model are expected at the end of 2026. The new X5 will feature a distinctive wide kidney grille in the Neue Klasse style and a front end similar to the iX3. The prototype has moved away from traditional round headlights in favor of lighting in the new signature design.

At the rear, a wave-like design of the lights and a split tailgate allowing the top section to open separately from the bottom are noticeable. The vehicle in the photo is a combustion engine version, confirmed by an additional air intake grille for cooling and concealed exhaust pipes.

BMW will offer a wide range of powertrains. The fully electric iX5 will be available in 50, 60, and M70 versions. Gasoline options will include four-cylinder engines, while high-performance M60 and M60e plug-in hybrid versions will retain a six-cylinder in-line engine.

Notable advancements in the upcoming model include an innovative modular platform aimed at enhancing flexibility across electric and hybrid variants.
