New Heights in RAM Prices: 64GB Kit Rivals a MacBook Air

Retail prices for RAM are showing no signs of stopping. The growth continues, despite reaching 300-400% increase levels just a few weeks ago. Now, a new milestone has been reached: a 64GB kit costs almost as much as a MacBook Air. Just a month ago, prices were compared to the PlayStation 5 Pro. For example, we wrote about the Corsair Vengeance RGB UDIMM 64GB Kit, DDR5-6000, costing around 550 euros ($600) in Europe, while back in September, it was only 240 euros ($260). Now, the same kit is around 750 euros ($818).

The same kit is now priced at 750 euros.

Looking at aggregators, a DDR5 32GB kit costs at least 300-330 euros ($327-$360). A 64GB kit is priced at no less than 600-650 euros ($654-$709), and faster, more exclusive sets are priced at 800 euros ($872) and above. A 128GB kit will cost at least 1300-1400 euros ($1419-$1530), while 256GB kits have almost disappeared from the market.

For DDR4, prices are as follows: a 32GB kit costs from 200 euros ($218), and a 64GB kit is approximately 400 euros ($436). Recent industry trends suggest a potential relief in sight as supply chains slowly adapt, but the impact of rising production costs remains significant. Experts note the surge is fueled by a mix of global chip shortages and a surge in consumer demand due to increased remote work and gaming.

“The market is witnessing unprecedented shifts in pricing structures, which may stabilize if the production normalizes and demand levels off,” an analyst suggested.

The recent shortages have highlighted the fragility of supply chains and prompted manufacturers to explore more sustainable production models to prevent future disruptions.
