Mercedes’ 2027 S-Class: Luxury Legend with a High-Tech Edge

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the new generation S-Class, a business-class icon. The flagship sedan, considered a benchmark of luxury for over 70 years, retains its recognizable look but comes with significant technological and technical updates. The new model will go on sale in 2027.

Externally, the S-Class 2027 is similar to the model that debuted in 2020 – proportions remain unchanged. However, the sedan features an updated front with a larger grille, sharper bumper lines, and the signature three-pointed stars integrated into the vertical grille slats. The tail lights adopt the style of the new E-Class – each having three star-shaped light elements, connected by a chrome strip on the trunk lid. Complementing the look are 19-inch multi-spoke wheels.

The interior has also seen updates. The massive Hyperscreen is a thing of the past, replaced by a new Superscreen configuration. It includes a digital instrument panel with a 12.3-inch display, a media system with a 14.3-inch screen, and a separate 12.3-inch screen for the front passenger. The system operates on an updated version of MBUX with support for generative AI and integrated Google Maps. Two 13.1-inch screens are available for rear passengers.

The S580 version comes with a new 4.0-liter V8 with a flat crankshaft – a rare choice for an executive sedan. The engine is augmented by a 48-volt hybrid system, delivering 530 hp and 750 Nm of torque. It accelerates to 100 km/h (62 mph) in under 4 seconds. The base S500 is equipped with a straight-six engine capable of 442 hp, while the plug-in hybrid S580e develops 576 hp and is expected to surpass its predecessor in electric-only range. The flagship V12 is reserved for the S680 Guard version.

All versions come with a 9-speed automatic transmission, all-wheel drive, and Airmatic air suspension. The E-Active Body Control system with intelligent damping control is available as an option.

Prices for the 2027 Mercedes-Benz S-Class have not been announced yet, but considering the current version starts at around $121,000 in the US, a price reduction is unlikely. Details about trims and pricing will be revealed closer to the launch, scheduled for the end of the year. Additionally, today saw the presentation of the Bentley Continental 2027 GT S.
