Memory Price Surge Threatens Consumer Electronics Stability

Honor has officially confirmed the upcoming price increase for its tablets, citing the sharp rise in the cost of memory and storage components. This announcement follows a similar move by Xiaomi, which has already revised prices for several tablets in the Chinese market. Honor admits that maintaining previous prices has become economically infeasible.

The head of Honor’s tablet and IoT division reported on Weibo that the company is facing unprecedented pressure from memory suppliers. He also advised consumers not to delay purchasing devices, as new prices will take effect soon. According to analysts, DRAM and NAND flash spot prices have more than tripled since September, driven by strong demand from data centers and AI infrastructure.

The price hike for tablets is expected to be followed by smartphones and PC components. Experts believe that the increase in memory costs will affect all consumer electronics by 2026.
