The co-CEO of Samsung, TM Roh, has issued a warning that the global memory shortage is reaching a new level, affecting nearly all consumer electronics sectors, from smartphones to refrigerators.

According to the executive, the market is facing an unprecedented situation. «As this situation is unprecedented, no company is immune to its impacts. The crisis affects not only mobile phones but also other consumer electronics, from televisions to household appliances,» stated TM Roh. He also noted that a rise in product prices is «inevitable,» but Samsung will strive to minimize the impact for consumers.
The memory prices are increasing, with an expected jump of 50% in the first quarter of 2026, and manufacturers, including Samsung and SK Hynix, are struggling to ramp up capacity. All new production volumes are diverted to support the needs of artificial intelligence (AI), leaving consumer solutions with whatever remains. The memory market crisis is anticipated to last at least until 2027.
