In anticipation of CES 2026, LG unveiled a groundbreaking monitor set to debut at the exhibition. This model is the world’s first 27-inch 4K OLED monitor featuring an RGB-stripe pixel structure and an impressive 240Hz refresh rate.
This innovative design refers to the arrangement of sub-pixels. In most modern OLED panels, they are placed in so-called non-uniform configurations, reminiscent of the infamous PenTile layout. LG’s new model features sub-pixels of equal size aligned next to each other, forming uniform and straight stripes of sub-pixels.
This configuration is not entirely new, but LG states that earlier OLED panels of this type typically had a refresh rate of only 60Hz. An RGB stripe structure involves arranging the three primary color sub-pixels-red, green, and blue-in a straight line, significantly reducing visual distortions like color fringing and edging even at close distances. While OLED panels using the RGB stripe method existed before, their maximum refresh rate was around 60Hz, making them unsuitable for gaming monitors.
In the new panel, the DFR (Dynamic Frequency & Resolution) technology is also used, allowing users to switch directly between 4K UHD resolution modes at 240Hz and Full HD modes at 480Hz. This feature significantly enhances the versatility and adaptability of the display for different gaming scenarios.
Compared to LG’s new OLED monitor, Samsung’s Odyssey monitors, known for their high refresh rates and advanced display technologies, stand as formidable competitors. The unique pixel arrangement and high refresh rate of LG’s new offering position it as a potential leader in the gaming monitor market, promising reduced lag and improved color accuracy.
