LG Unveils Monitors with High-Tech Firsts Amidst Global Display Battle

LG has introduced several new monitors, totaling three innovations, two of which claim unique distinctions in the market. The first remarkable debut is the world’s first 5K MiniLED backlit monitor, the UltraGear evo GM9 (27GM950B). This 27-inch IPS panel stands out with its MiniLED backlighting featuring 2,304 local dimming zones. At its native resolution, the frame rate reaches 165 Hz; however, this dual-mode monitor also offers a QHD resolution mode with a refresh rate of 330 Hz. The peak brightness is stated to be 1250 cd/m2, making it one of the brightest monitors available today.

The UltraGear evo GX9 (39GX950B) marks the world’s first 5K2K OLED monitor featuring AI upscaling technology. It’s known that this 39-inch OLED panel has a 21:9 aspect ratio and a curvature radius of 1500R. The monitor reportedly supports AI upscaling, enhancing resolution to 5K without placing undue stress on the GPU. However, the exact mechanics remain undisclosed.

Joining the lineup is another ultra-wide monitor with the same 21:9 aspect ratio and 5K2K resolution but boasting a gigantic 52-inch size, also touted as a first of its kind in the world. A complete unveiling of all these innovations is set for CES 2026.

CES 2026 will undoubtedly serve as a platform for discussing the broader implications of AI upscaling in consumer display technology. It is expected that this technology will enable higher image quality in video and gaming applications by reducing the burden on existing graphics processing units.

Competitors such as Samsung and Dell are also gearing up to showcase their own advancements in similar technology, striving to claim their share of the high-end monitor market. Currently, the rival products in the market include Samsung’s Odyssey series, which features impressive specifications, including higher refresh rates and resolutions designed to appeal to gaming enthusiasts and media professionals alike.

Industry experts underline the significance of such technological advancements as key drivers in the global display technology race, emphasizing impacts on market competitors and consumer choices, as everyone aims to capture the dynamic and rapidly evolving market segment.
