Lexar’s AI Storage Core: The Compact SSD That’s Small in Size but Big in AI Potential

Lexar has introduced the AI Storage Core – the industry’s first compact SSDs for AI tasks with hot-swappable capabilities. Resembling a typical memory card in size and shape, though slightly thicker than a standard SD card, it marks a new era in AI storage solutions.

Details remain sparse as the product is yet to appear even on the official website, with only a press release published by TechPowerUp available. Photo by TechPowerUp. According to the release, it is a high-speed SSD optimized for small block (512 bytes) I/O operations and interacts with the host system on SLC Boost and Read Cache levels, enhancing the loading of large language models (LLM), image generation workflows, and other real-time AI tasks. One image suggests at least a 4 TB version, possibly the flagship model, highlighting Lexar’s commitment to offering substantial storage space.

Lexar asserts that the speed significantly surpasses that of traditional memory cards, indicating a noteworthy improvement over existing solutions. With AI integration sweeping across various fields – from language models, gaming, cameras, to automobiles and robotics – Lexar’s new SSD is positioned prominently at this intersection.

In comparison to current AI-focused storage solutions, Lexar’s innovative design and functionality reflect broader trends in 2025’s storage technology landscape, where compactness meets high performance. Industry experts have noted the potential for such devices to revolutionize consumer experiences, especially in sectors demanding swift AI processing capabilities. Lexar’s approach may set a significant benchmark not just in terms of technological advancement, but also in altering business strategies for competitors as they ramp up their AI storage offerings.
