Introduction to the Legion Go 2
Lenovo’s much-anticipated Legion Go 2 makes its debut, setting a new standard in the handheld gaming world. Revealed at IFA 2025 in Berlin, the Legion Go 2 introduces several advances over its predecessors, including a striking OLED display and significant improvements in processing power and battery life.
The handheld gaming market has witnessed substantial growth over the past few years, spurred by the flexible gaming experiences offered by devices like the Nintendo Switch. Companies such as Valve and Asus have also entered the arena with offerings like the Steam Deck and ROG Ally, respectively. Lenovo’s entrance into this competitive landscape with the Legion series aims to cater to gamers seeking portable yet powerful gaming solutions.
The Legion Go 2 retains the core design elements of the initial Legion Go, with a few fresh upgrades. Notably, it houses an 8.8-inch OLED display, which promises vibrant colors with HDR TrueBlack 1000 for enhanced color contrast and richer blacks. However, to balance performance and battery efficiency, the resolution has been adjusted from 2560 x 1600 to 1920 x 1200.
The device is powered by AMD’s latest Ryzen Z2 processors, providing a significant upgrade from the previous generation’s Ryzen Z1 Extreme chip. Two configurations are available: a base model with 16GB RAM and a 1TB SSD for $1,099, and an enhanced version boasting 32GB RAM and a 2TB SSD for $1,349. This power boost positions the Legion Go 2 as a formidable competitor in the market, offering greater efficiency and speed for high-demand games.
With a nearly 50% increase in battery capacity, thanks to the new 74 WHr battery, Lenovo claims the Legion Go 2 offers prolonged gaming sessions over its predecessors. The console includes a headphone jack, two USB ports, and a microSD card reader for extended storage capabilities.
Although priced at a premium, the new features of the Legion Go 2 indicate Lenovo’s intent to appeal to hardcore gamers who prioritize performance and display quality. Compared to the ROG Ally, set to release in mid-October with currently undisclosed pricing, the Legion Go 2 offers early adopters a powerful, polished experience. The device will hit markets in late October, costing several hundred dollars more than its predecessor, which launched at $700.
With pre-orders now live, consumers can expect shipping of the Legion Go 2 to begin on October 31. As the landscape for handheld gaming consoles continues to evolve, Xiaomi’s and Apple’s potential entry into the field could push current players like Lenovo to innovate further. Whether it will resonate with consumers enough to challenge Nintendo’s dominance remains to be seen, but Lenovo’s advances with the Legion Go 2 are certainly a step in that direction.
