It looks like Lenovo is gearing up to showcase not just the unique Legion Pro Rollable laptop with a horizontally expanding screen at CES 2026, but also another model, featuring a screen that rolls out vertically. Renderings of the ThinkPad Rollable XD model have already been published by Windows Latest.
It’s worth mentioning upfront that Lenovo already has such a laptop, even in serial production. This is the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable. The new model will have the same concept, but will differ in one significant detail.

In the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 Rollable, the screen rolls up from the base. The frame lifts up and pulls the screen out from the bottom part. In the ThinkPad Rollable XD, when folded, the screen doesn’t actually roll away but “flows” to the back of the lid. As a result, in the folded state, the display is both outside and inside, and when the structure unfolds, the part that was initially on the outside slides inside.

The CES 2026 will showcase the concept, so it’s unclear if such a solution will go into series. After all, this design has a significant risk of damaging the screen during transport. It is known that in the folded state the diagonal will be 13.3 inches, and when unfolded it will increase to 16 inches. The back of the lid is covered with protective glass.
Technical Challenges and Market Impact
One of the primary challenges with rollable display technology is ensuring durability and resilience-especially given the unique folding mechanism seen in the ThinkPad Rollable XD, which could potentially expose the screen to more wear and tear. Consumer acceptance will likely hinge on Lenovo addressing these issues effectively.
Despite these challenges, rollable screens could redefine multi-tasking possibilities for professionals and gamers alike, offering them extra screen real estate without compromising mobility. Competitive brands are anticipated to closely monitor Lenovo’s developments, possibly leading to a rise in similar innovations across the industry.
