Kensington has introduced a docking station for PC and Mac with a long name: SD7100T5 EQ Pro 19-in-1 Thunderbolt 5 Docking Station (for PC) and EQ Pro Thunderbolt 5 Dock Designed (for Mac). The versions are technically identical and probably will cost the same, but prices are not yet available.
The name reveals two things. First, the new product includes a Thunderbolt 5 interface, which is finally starting to spread across the market. Second, the dock offers 19 different ports and slots.
The setup is as follows: four Thunderbolt ports, four USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, two USB-C Gen 2 10 Gbps ports, three card slots (CF, SD, Micro SD 4.0), four audio jacks, one PCIe M.2 secure slot, and RJ45 2.5GbE. The docking station can output to three monitors and deliver up to 140W of power.
Thunderbolt 5 is the latest iteration of the Thunderbolt interface, known for its high-speed data transfer capabilities. The technology boasts a doubling of PCI Express lanes, enhancing the potential speed and bandwidth in data transfers. It offers support for multiple 4K displays and even 8K, making it well-suited for high-definition content creation and consumption. These features align well with the demands of modern digital work environments, where video editing and large-scale data handling are common.
