Kazakhstan’s Celestial Leap: Connecting Beyond Borders

Beeline Kazakhstan conducted field tests of Starlink Direct to Cell technology, achieving the first-ever direct satellite data transmission in Central Asia. The test showcased seamless integration between satellite and terrestrial mobile communications, using a standard smartphone with a Beeline SIM card and no special equipment. During the trials, Beeline Kazakhstan President Yevgeny Nastradin made a call via messenger to Veon Group’s Executive Director Kaan Terzioglu while on a satellite connection. Participants also successfully sent messages and SMS.

The trials were attended by Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Development, Zhasslan Madiev, as well as representatives from the Akmola Region akimat, where the field tests took place.

Testing confirmed the practical compatibility of Starlink Direct to Cell with Beeline’s mobile network, demonstrating that everyday devices can remain connected beyond traditional coverage areas. The technology aims to close ‘white spots’ in remote and sparsely populated regions and enhance the resilience of national networks.

Following successful trials, Beeline Kazakhstan plans to begin commercial services based on Starlink Direct to Cell with SMS services in 2026, pending regulatory approval.

As companies like Beeline and Starlink pioneer in satellite communications, the technology is poised to transform remote connectivity. Its potential lies in bridging the digital divide in underserved areas globally.
