iPhone Air Struggles To Compete as Rivals Push Ahead

The authors at DxOMark have taken a look at the already disappointing iPhone Air to test its camera. To recap, it has a single 48 MP camera based on a 1/1.56-inch optical sensor. The smartphone scored 141 points overall: 134 for photos and 155 for video. Naturally, it scored low for zoom photos and videos, as it offers only digital zoom. Although it’s far from market leaders, overall the score is respectable. Approximately on the same level are the iPhone 13 Pro Max, Huawei P50 Pro, Pixel 7, and Pixel 9. However, the iPhone 15 is still slightly better.

The iPhone 15 has advanced further with its enhanced computational photography and improved Night Mode, setting itself apart with superior low-light performance. The iPhone 13 Pro Max, although older, maintains a powerful triple-camera setup that provides versatile shooting options, which continues to be competitive in today’s market.

For Android competitors, the Huawei P50 Pro boasts Leica-engineered cameras, offering superior color accuracy and detail, whereas the Pixel 7 and Pixel 9 are celebrated for their exceptional image processing capabilities, powered by Google’s latest AI advancements.

Meanwhile, there’s speculation about the Air 2 model featuring a dual-camera setup, similar to the basic iPhone models. However, it’s yet unclear if it will be released at all. The latest leaks suggest an announcement in the spring of 2027, though Apple’s typical secrecy means details are sparse and should be taken with caution.
