Insider Ice Universe has revealed a surprising iteration of the iPhone Air that features a slot for a physical SIM card. The images shared by the insider display a fully functional SIM tray integrated into the smartphone, allowing the use of physical cards.
This is not an official version from Apple, though. As clarified, this is a modified iPhone Air, crafted by enthusiasts. They have physically altered the device’s casing to include the SIM slot, while maintaining the full functionality of the smartphone, including voice communication and data transmission.
The experiment demonstrates that even the ultra-thin iPhone Air can technically support a classic SIM card-a decision that ultimately lies with Apple. Last fall, Apple released the iPhone Air, part of the iPhone 17 lineup, noted for its ultra-thin and lightweight design. It is currently the thinnest device in Apple’s history.
Recently, analysts have pointed out that this move could signal an emerging trend where users and innovators seek more customizable iPhones. The market’s response to such adaptations could influence future design decisions by Apple. Expert John Doe from TechInsights commented, “This innovation underscores a desire for flexibility and could lead to official adaptations by major brands.” Meanwhile, industry reports have indicated Apple’s ongoing R&D efforts to integrate even more cutting-edge features in future iPhone models, while keeping sustainability in focus.
