Insider John Prosser on his YouTube channel Front Page Tech released a video showcasing alleged design changes in the Apple iPhone 18 Pro, revealing three potential new body colors: burgundy, brown, and purple.
According to the renders, Apple is considering partially relocating components of the Face ID system under the screen, allowing the removal of the signature “pill-shaped” cutout. Instead, a single round hole will remain on the display, with the front camera moving to the top left corner. Incidentally, this is corroborated by another insider, Wisdom Pikachu.
Despite this, the Dynamic Island interface will remain, according to the insider, but already in a software format, without any physical cutout on the screen.
On the back panel of the iPhone 18 Pro, according to the leak, a primary camera with a variable aperture will appear. This mechanism will allow the lens to physically adjust the amount of incoming light and depth of field, providing more natural bokeh compared to software “Portrait Mode.”
Prosser specifies that this feature may become exclusive to the iPhone 18 Pro Max, while the junior Pro version may remain without it.
The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to receive the Apple A20 Pro SoC and transition to an improved proprietary C2 modem developed by Apple itself. This should lead to a noticeable improvement in communication quality and energy efficiency compared to Qualcomm’s solutions.
The video also mentions a redesign of the side camera control button. Apple plans to abandon the capacitive sensor in favor of a simpler pressure sensor, which should increase reliability and tactile feedback when in use.
Previously, Prosser released dates for the announcement and release of the Google Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, and Pixel Watch. Prior to that, he was the first to report the presentation dates of the iPhone SE 2020 and MacBook Pro 13 laptops. Last year, John Prosser released accurate renders of the iPhone 17 Pro a month before its premiere. Wisdom Pikachu accurately reported the release of the Xiaomi 13 Ultra in April 2023 and the appearance of Xiaomi Pad 6 tablets at the same presentation.
