Intel’s New 64-Core Xeon: Impressive But Stiff Competition from AMD

The new 64-core Intel Xeon 696X has been spotted on benchmark tests, allowing us to compare it with other market players. Currently, results are only available from PassMark, but that is better than nothing. The new HEDT processor scores 112,888 points in multi-thread mode. By comparison, the 60-core Xeon w9-3595X is 15% slower. Photo WCCF Tech

This is not a very good indicator for Intel, as it shows a 20% increase with a 7% core increase, despite a new architecture and new process technology. By comparison, the 32-core Ryzen Threadripper 9970X is only 5% slower with half as many cores. And the 64-core version is already 25% faster. Photo PassMark

It seems likely the new generation of Intel HEDT processors will be faster than the old ones, but not by much, and will not be able to compete with current Threadripper models.
