Intel Strikes Back: Core Ultra Pushes Asus ZenBook Duo Over Apple M1 in Battery Race

Yesterday, we already saw the test results of the new Intel Core Ultra processors, which allowed us to roughly estimate battery life. However, the authors of the Just Josh channel decided to conduct more comprehensive battery life tests, resulting in more understandable outcomes.

To begin with, we can evaluate the results themselves.

As can be seen, they are more than impressive. In this case, the Asus ZenBook Duo equipped with a 99Wh battery managed to significantly outperform even the MacBook Pro 14 with the M1 chip, not to mention all other competitors, in office-related tasks.

Still, different laptops have different batteries. The authors recalculated the numbers to reflect what they would be if all test participants were equipped with the same 70Wh batteries. Here we see a shift, with the MacBook Pro leading the pack, notably leaving everyone else behind, but the Asus with the new Intel CPU lands a solid second place. In this scenario, the advantage over competitors is less pronounced, yet even the model with the Snapdragon chip slightly lags.

In this test, it appears that, at least in this example, the laptop with the Core Ultra 3 is the most autonomous option running Windows. Interestingly, it should also be noted that the test laptop hardly lost any performance when unplugged from a power source.

Recent benchmarks have confirmed that Intel’s Core Ultra processors stand strong against the likes of Apple’s M1 and Snapdragon. With an emphasis on achieving unprecedented efficiency and performance, Intel’s new release positions itself as highly competitive, particularly when all devices use equivalent battery sizes. The Asus ZenBook Duo exemplifies this by showcasing significant battery performance gains in productivity scenarios, emphasizing the potential of Windows laptops.
