Huawei’s Leap in Chip Technology: Is Kirin 9030 a Game-changer?

Huawei has been leveraging its proprietary Kirin SoCs in flagship smartphones for several years now, despite their notable performance lag compared to top-tier competitors. The latest update suggests that next year Huawei plans to unveil a new SoC, the Kirin 9030, anticipated to debut in a gaming smartphone.

Insider Setsuna Digital hasn’t disclosed the smartphone model or specific platform specs but hinted that its manufacturing process might be comparable to a 3 nm technology. However, the exact nature of such a comparable process remains unclear, possibly alluding to the advanced nature of the process, likely around 5 nm.

It’s worth noting that the 5 nm fabrication process is renowned for its increased transistor density, contributing to improved performance and energy efficiency. This technological prowess offers enhanced processing power and reduced battery consumption, which are crucial features for gaming devices.

Previously this year, reports indicated that the Chinese company SMIC, responsible for manufacturing Huawei’s cutting-edge chips, is nearing the achievement of 5 nm standards, albeit using older equipment. Given the forecast for early 2026, this platform may also power the upcoming Mate 80 series, as initial leaks suggest.

Setsuna Digital is notably accurate, previously being the first to reveal the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus in the new yellow variant and key features of the Apple Watch Ultra.
