Huawei’s Latest Update: An Unseen Technological Leap in the Mate 80 Series

Significant Camera Enhancements in Latest HarmonyOS Update

Huawei has begun rolling out a new HarmonyOS update for the Mate 80 series. Version 6.0.0.120 SP9 is now available and primarily focuses on camera performance, gallery functions, data sharing between devices, and system navigation. A substantial portion of the update addresses camera enhancements. Huawei claims improvements in shooting modes such as ‘Cinema Effects’ and ‘Moon,’ along with increased stability when capturing moving objects. The dynamic photo stabilization has been adjusted, and the Red Maple camera system now employs updated color settings in certain scenes, enhancing results with telephoto and wide-angle lenses.

Recently, other major tech companies, such as Samsung and Apple, have also enhanced their camera software as the competition in mobile photography intensifies. Huawei’s strategy to optimize camera features aligns with current industry trends where image quality and versatility stand as major factors in consumer decision-making.

New Gallery Features and Enhanced Sharing Options

The Gallery app introduces a new function allowing users to delete photos only from the device, retaining them in the cloud. This feature helps free up local storage without removing backups. Home screen gallery cards now support dynamic effects, and a new customizable album card lets users select multiple photos for display directly from the main screen.

Moreover, Huawei’s expanding support for Huawei Share allows Mate 80 devices to send photos, videos, files, and contacts to iOS, iPadOS, and macOS devices, provided the receiving device has the Huawei HarmonyOS Galaxy Interconnect app installed. Privacy settings have also been updated; users can now restrict app access to device orientation data, helping prevent ‘shake’ actions that could lead to unwanted ad redirects. This setting is found under ‘Privacy & Security.’

Open-Air Exploration Features and Improved Performance

The update adds an ‘Outdoor Exploration’ mode, which includes gestures for multitasking, quick app switching, screen splitting, and floating windows. Huawei also notes overall performance and stability improvements. The ‘Weather’ app now displays dynamic icons that change based on local conditions.

As of December 2025, Huawei has shipped approximately 754,900 units of the Mate 80 series. Just five days before, sales figures were half, highlighting a substantial growth likely spurred by new features and aggressive market positioning. Although still trailing behind the Xiaomi 17 series, the Mate 80 now roughly equates in market presence to the Redmi K90 series, despite being launched after both competitors.

Future Projections and Market Position

Huawei continues to challenge market leaders by expanding its ecosystem through strategic updates and cross-platform feature compatibility. Industry insiders suggest that the firm’s ability to integrate unique functionalities across diverse operating systems could significantly boost its competitive edge in the coming years.
