Huawei MatePad Edge: The Hybrid Tablet-Laptop Saga Continues

Besides various smartphones, Huawei has also launched the MatePad Edge tablet today. This hybrid device can be transformed into a laptop with a keyboard stand. Photo Huawei As a laptop, it is expected to perform quite well, especially because it features a large 14.2-inch OLED display with a resolution of 3120 x 2080 pixels and 120 Hz support. Huawei highlights the narrow bezel (4.1 mm) and the lack of camera cutouts, though a camera is present. At the core of the novelty is the Kirin X90/X90A SoC, similar to some of the company’s PCs. It includes a 10-core CPU and a 10-core Ma Liang 920 GPU. Compared to the MatePad Pro 13.2 from 2023, the company promises nearly fourfold performance gains. It also has 16 to 32 GB of RAM and storage ranging from 256 GB to 2 TB. Photo Huawei The dual main camera with 50 MP and 8 MP sensors and the huge 12,900 mAh battery with 140 W charging power can also be noted. Even reverse charging is very powerful at 40 W. Moreover, the tablet is equipped with an active cooling system, including two fans and two large evaporative chambers, as well as a huge thin liquid cooling system. The dimensions are 312 x 212 x 6.85 mm with a weight of 789 g. Depending on the configuration, the novelty costs between $840 and $1120. The $1400 version will not only offer a top-tier configuration but also a keyboard stand and Soft-Light display.

The MatePad Edge has recently started shipping in multiple regions, aiming to capture the hybrid tablet-laptop market with its robust performance and stylish design. Early reviews praise its impressive screen quality and multitasking capabilities, which are critical given its dual nature. Although the competition is fierce within the $800 to $1400 range, the MatePad Edge stands out with its unique features and Huawei’s own SoC, which is specifically optimized for such hybrid devices. Additionally, potential buyers are attracted by the long battery life and fast charging capabilities-factors that are often decisive in a consumer’s purchasing decision.
